Hayden Congregational Church was organized on the 29th day of August 1899. A town meeting was held to choose a denomination for the proposed church, and it was decided that the Congregational Church would best suit people of different backgrounds. The sanctuary was constructed and a dedication of the building was held on May 24, 1903. The site was purchased for $1.00 and the church was built for $15,000. In 1941, the church underwent a major enlargement that included the addition of the parish hall and kitchen on the back and a new entrance.
In 1976 the church was again remodeled and enlarged. Memorial stained glass windows were commissioned, and the first five windows were finishedThe congregation in time for the dedication of the remodeled church on May 23, 1976. Now the church is complete with the five original windows in the sanctuary, 15 memorial windows in the sanctuary, 15 memorial windows in the entry and hall, and windows in the classrooms. The most recent additions were a stained glass window portraying praying hands, which now hangs over the alter, a new audio visual system, and a handicap ramp that was added to the front of the building.
The congregation has always been a focal point of the community. It has a strong history of prayer and worship, a wonderful Sunday School and youth groups, and a strong presence in caring for the less fortunate in the community. Our Mission work has been recognized many times throughout the years. The women's group has been faithful in its support of missions throughout the world. Our worship services have continued to be on the traditional side with a blend of contempory mixed in.
We are proud of our heritage and you will find many families that are represented by several generations. We hope you feel the love of God extended to you. We look forward to the future with eagerness and enthusiam as we seek new ways to serve our Lord and do his will.
